TREATMENT
MRI introduced for stroke diagnosis.

Sir Peter Mansfield was awarded the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (along with Paul Lauterbur, who independently developed MRI technology) and the MRC Millennium Medal in 2009, for his work in the development of MRI.

2002
RESEARCH
Report published in 2002 Stroke is found to be the sixth largest cause of disability at a worldwide level.
TREATMENT
Mechanical thrombectomy widely introduced as a best treatment for large artery strokes. Immediate administration of aspirin after mini-stroke is found to substantially reduce risk of major stroke. NICE Stroke Guidelines established a recognised pathway for treatment of Stroke
